Most New Testament readers recognize that the Gospel of Matthew presents Yeshua in a very Jewish light. A knowledge of Matthew's context within first-century Judaism can offer an even richer understanding of the first Gospel. Get ready to go deep into the history and theology of Matthew, as Dr. Schaser walks you through Matthew's Genealogy, the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus' ministry in Galilee and in Jerusalem, and the Messiah's Passion and Resurrection.  Each lecture will show you how skillfully the author presents Jesus as the awaited Messiah of Israel, as well as provide insights into the language and biblical themes that would have been familiar to Matthew's first readers. You will be amazed as you reexamine the Messiah's miracles and teachings in light of the rich cultural background of early Judaism.

This very insightful, to see the usage of the Torah and the Prophets by the author in very different ways, leading me to believe as I always have since my first complete reading of the Bible when I was 17 years old. That is that the Gospels as we have them were written and edited by scholars, just my opinion. A further note, something I did not ever recognize, is the Recapitulation in Jesus!
