Dr. Shalom Goldman is Pardon Tillinghast Professor of Religion at Middlebury College in Vermont. His books include: Zeal for Zion: Christians, Jews, and the Idea of the Promised Land ; God’s Sacred Tongue: Hebrew and the American Imagination ; and just out — Starstruck in the Promised Land: How the Arts Shaped American Passions about Israel. In these works Dr. Goldman's expells the important role played by Christians (not only Jews) in the emergence of the modern state of Israel, whether Zionism and antisemitism sometimes go together, and how studying the Hebrew language has helped shape Jewish and Christian identities and relationships.
