Women of Biblical Israel

Dr. Carol Meyers is Mary Grace Wilson Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Religion at Duke University. She is the author of Discovering Eve: Ancient Israelite Women in Context, as well as nearly twenty-five years later the updated version, Rediscovering Eve. Her other contributions to Biblical studies and archaeology amount to hundreds of publications. A past president of the Society of Biblical Literature, Dr Meyers has worked on numerous important excavations in the Land of Israel, including the famous sites of Tsippori/Sepphoris and Nabratein. In this wide-ranging conversation with Dr. Yeshaya Gruber of the Israel Bible Center, Prof. Meyers explains her approach to reconstructing the lives of both ordinary and elite women of Israel in ancient times, from their oft-misunderstood household and economic roles to their spiritual activities and communal networks.
